Sri Lanka to host shopping festival to lure tourists

Sri Lanka has been planning to host a mega shopping festival that would be strikingly similar to the famous ‘Dubai Shopping Festival’, with an aim to draw an increased number of tourists to this part of the world, as per an official statement.
The Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association (SLRA) had held a meeting with Ravi Karunanayake, who is the minister of finance, recently in order to discuss the proposed plan.
This fair would target the local as well as foreign shoppers.
Different choices and attractive discounts would be offered to visitors. Apart from that, the event would also witness various sports and cultural programs, musical events and also book exhibitions.
Hussain Sadique of SLRA, in a meeting that was conducted to discuss the proposed Shopping Festival said that Sri Lanka is currently witnessing an increase in tourist arrivals since there are limited activities in the nation to draw shoppers. Therefore, tourists who arrive here only visit the historical attractions.
He also said that the main objectives of the project is to draw more visitors from countries like Male, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other Asian and also European nations along with those from the Middle East.
Sri Lanka shares maritime borders with India on its northwestern part and Maldives to the southwestern part.
