Galaxy S8 Hands-On: Leaked Video Shows On-Screen Keys and Dedicated Bixby Button

A working model of Galaxy S8 has been leaked in an online video show-off the phone's bezel-less display and on-screen keys that replace the old home button and soft keys that are present on the current flagship Galaxy S7.
Though, if you have been following the leaks, you know this (and have seen this in leaked photos) already but it's the first actual hands-on video that shows the phone in full glory ahead of its launch next week on March 29.
The video uploaded by Slashleaks shows the phone's front and back, with a working display and software. It looks very similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge -- if you don't pay attention to the glowing button at the bottom. But the button integrated with the Bixby software -- apart from the bezel-less display -- would come as major differentiator not only compared to its own flagship but to others as well.
The video begins with showing phone's lock screen boasting the active display similar to the Galaxy S7, but with the home button glowing at the bottom. This is the dedicated button for launching Samsung's voice assistant Bixby. As the screen is unlocked you come to grips with the fact that there are going be three on-screen keys for navigation. The phone appears to be running a new version of its Touchwiz interface, but then it might just be a small upgrade built over Android Nougat 7.0.
This also clears the fact, if you are misinformed, that there is not going be an on-screen fingerprint sensor, but rather at the back -- put way up there, alongside the rear camera. As we stated  during the initial leaks about the design as well, Samsung could be focusing  more on other method of authentication - read iris scanner/face recognition -- for daily use, while keeping fingerprint scanner for the rare fail-safe override.

Galaxy S8 is said to be a drastic upgrade, and we would know if it actually is only after the launch, but in the leaked video it rather feels like an elongated version of the Galaxy S8, which may not be bad if most of the major flaws are addressed.
The elongated display, as you may know, has an 18:9 aspect ratio similar to what we saw on the LG G6. This divides the display into two equal perfect squares and the companies claim you get better multi-tasking experience.
Samsung is said to be launching Galaxy S8 in two variants 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch, with the difference only in the screen size and the prices, recently leaked on internet, are close to Rs 56,500 and Rs 63,500. The phones would hit retail only in after April 21.

Gionee A1 with 16MP Front Camera, Android 7.0 Nougat Launched in India: Specs & Price

Gionee on Tuesday launched A1, an Android smartphone with a big front camera, in India. The phone, which is a high-end device, will be available in both online and offline retail stores. However, the company has not yet announced the price of the phone but it is almost certain to be more than Rs 20,000. The pre-bookings for the phone will start from March 31.
The top feature of the Gionee A1 is its front camera, which can click 16-megapixel images. Unlike the front cameras in most other phones that come with the F2.2 lens, the selfie camera in the A1 has an aperture of F2.0, which should collect more light when you are clicking photos with it. In other words, your chances of getting a good selfie in a dimly-lit restaurant are higher with the Gionee A1 compared to some other phone.
On the back, the phone sports a 13-megapixel camera with F2.0 lens. This camera is paired with a dual-tone flash. The rest of the hardware inside the Gionee A1 is fairly typical of what we see in a high-end phone. It is powered by MediaTek P10 processor and has 4GB RAM. There is also 64GB internal storage and 4010 mAh battery with fast charging feature. The Gionee A1 had a 5.5-inch screen. It uses AMOLED panel and has a resolution of 1080P. Also, there is a layer of curved glass on top of the screen, giving the phone premium looks. The phone has an all-metal body, a fingerprint sensor in the front and other bells and whistles that are expected in a high-end phone.
The A1 is one of the first phones from Gionee to come with Android Nougat aka Android 7 out of the box. However, as it happens with Gionee phones, the A1 too uses Amigo user interface. This means the interface looks different compared to how Android Nougat looks in a Nexus of Pixel phone. At the same time there are a number of additional features in the phone that are unique to Amigo 4.0 operating system.
Overall this looks like one cool phone with some nice features aimed at users who love to click selfies, which means almost everyone. The front camera seems impressive. The other components seem good enough and make the phone competitive in its price range.
For Gionee the A1 is a very important launch, especially in India where we have seen other companies from China -- OPPO, Vivo, Lenovo, and Huawei -- surge in a big way in the last one year. Last year at the World Mobile Congress, Gionee had unveiled a new business brand strategy, hoping to focus more on the user experience and less on the specs and hardware. Also unveiled was a new logo with a smiley face, the same logo that adorns the rear cover of the Gionee A1. Its latest phone, according to the company, aims to satisfy the needs of users by providing good users experience instead of just specifications.

Beware! Pre-installed Malware Found On These 38 Android Devices

Recently, the security company Checkpoint has revealed that it has discovered the presence of severe malware and ransomware that was preinstalled on multiple devices from two large companies.

Beware! Pre-installed Malware Found On These 38 Android Devices

In the segment of mobile devices, Android is apparently the main target of hackers. Recently, Checkpoint revealed that it has discovered the presence of malware that was preinstalled on multiple devices from two large companies.

So, let’s find out which were the devices where malware was found.

Malware is today one of the biggest plagues in the technological world. Despite all the validation and verification mechanisms of product quality, the truth is that there are smartphones that hit the market with pre-installed malware. The discovery was made by the security company Check Point and reportedly malware is not part of the official ROM but has been installed along the device distribution chain.

Even more curious was the fact that there are 6 cases where the malware was installed directly in the ROM, with system privileges, which means that in those cases, the firmware must be reinstalled in the device.

From the malware discovered, highlight the popular Loki and Slocker. Slocker is a ransomware that uses AES encryption algorithm to encrypt all files on the device and then demand a ransom. Slocker uses Tor for communications with the C & C server (acronym for “Command & Control”).

But, which devices were infected?

According to the investigation, malware was found on the following devices:-

Galaxy Note 2
LG G4
Galaxy S7
Galaxy S4
Galaxy Note 4
Galaxy Note 5
Galaxy Note 8
Xiaomi Mi 4i
Galaxy A5
ZTE x500
Galaxy Note 3
Galaxy Note Edge
Galaxy Tab S2
Galaxy Tab 2
Oppo N3
Vivo X6 plus
Nexus 5
Nexus 5X
Asus Zenfone 2
LenovoS90
OppoR7 plus
Xiaomi Redmi
Lenovo A850
It is also known that these devices were at the service of two large companies: one in the area of telecommunications and another multinational in the area of technology.

This is not the first time that malware pre-installed on Android devices is discovered, which is very worrying. This means that distribution processes are vulnerable, which is unacceptable at this level.

Four charged, including Russian gov't agents, for massive Yahoo hack

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has charged four people, including two Russian state intelligence agents, for their involvement in a massive hack of Yahoo that affected half a billion accounts.
In September, Yahoo said hackers had managed to steal personal data on more than 500 million users during an attack in late 2014. The stolen data included names, email addresses, telephone numbers and hashed passwords. Blame for the attack was put on a "state-sponsored" group.
On Wednesday, the FBI said that group was the Russian Federal Security Service, the FSB, and it identified agents Dmitry Dokuchaev and Igor Sushchin as leaders of the attack.
The Russian agents paid two criminal hackers, Alexsey Belan and Karim Baratov, to break into the Yahoo accounts and then steal information that could be used to further compromise other accounts, according to the FBI.
The hackers specifically targeted the Yahoo accounts of Russian and U.S. government officials, including those involved with cybersecurity, Russian journalists and financial services companies, the FBI said.
But they also attacked the accounts of regular users, looking for things like credit card numbers and gift cards that they could cash in.
"The FSB used hackers to gain information, some of which had intelligence value, but in doing so the criminal hackers used this opportunity to line their own pockets for financial gain," said Mary McCord, acting assistant attorney general, during a Washington, D.C., news conference.
Three of those named are at large but one, Baratov, was arrested in Canada on Tuesday on a U.S. warrant. The other alleged criminal hacker, Belan, has been charged twice before in the U.S.
The U.S. has requested that Interpol issue red notices for those at large, but unless the Russian government decides to cooperate they could easily remain beyond the arm of international law.
However, the U.S. government has a number of tools at its disposal including diplomatic and trade sanctions that could be used to pressure or punish Russia.
The hack was just one of two massive data breaches suffered by Yahoo. A second, disclosed in December, was even bigger, affecting a billion accounts. It included much of the same information but also birth dates. The passwords stolen in this hack were obfuscated in MD5, an old algorithm that can be hacked. Yahoo blamed the larger breach on an "unauthorized third party."
Russian state security has been blamed for a series of hacks including the high profile attack on the Democratic National Committee during the recent U.S. election. McCord said Wednesday's indictment does not allege any links between the Yahoo hack and the DNC hacks.

2017 Hyundai Grand i10 - Full details leaked

Thank you to BHPian RavenAvi for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!
Ahead of the 2017 Grand i10 facelift's official launch, details about its feature additions and the new diesel engine's specifications have surfaced.
According to the leaked details, the 2017 Grand i10 facelift will get a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 74 BHP and 194 Nm of torque. This engine will be replacing the 1.1-litre unit found on the current model that develops 70 BHP and 160 Nm of torque. The new diesel engine has an ARAI-rated fuel economy of 24.4 km/l.
Meanwhile, the petrol variants will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder VTVT engine that makes 82 BHP and 114 Nm of torque. However, Hyundai has made some minor changes to this engine which include adoption of Alternator Management System (AMS), improvement of engine oil viscosity levels, use of low friction bearings in transmission, etc. These changes are claimed to improve the engine's fuel economy by around 4.6%. As a result, the new Grand i10 petrol will be able to deliver a company-claimed economy of 19.77 km/l, as compared to the corresponding figure of 18.9 km/l extracted by the current model.
With the facelift, Hyundai will also be adding some new features to the Grand i10 line-up. The Grand i10 facelift's top-end Astra trim will come with automatic climate control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & MirrorLink, voice recognition, a reversing camera and LED DRLs placed near the fog lamps. The top-end model will also get a new set of 14-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the Sportz trim will be offered with a 5-inch basic touchscreen infotainment system.
Cosmetic changes made to the exteriors of the new Grand i10 include a new hexagonal front grille and boomerang-shaped fog lamp housings with chrome detailing on the lower variants and LED DRLs on the top-end trim. The rear bumper has also been tweaked to house a large blacked-out area in the middle. Hyundai is also claiming to have reinforced the car's body for better NCAP safety compliance.

Election results: BJP getting ready to stake claim to form government in Goa

The BJP is likely to stake claim to form the government in Goa, hoping to sail across the majority mark with support from the smaller parties and independents. The Goa Forward Party (GFP), however, has said it is yet to hand over any letter of support to the BJP or the Congress.
"We are staking claim to form the government... we have support of more than 21 legislators which is required to form the government," BJP state unit chief Vinay Tendulkar claimed while talking to PTI. The newly elected BJP MLAs, who met today to explore the possibility of forming government in Goa, earlier passed a resolution urging party chief Amit Shah to nominate Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as leader of the legislature party.
The BJP's efforts to cobble up a majority to form the government in Goa got a boost as the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) said it would extend support to the saffron party if Parrikar is appointed as the chief minister. Tendulkar said the letters of support are expected from other parties, including the Goa Forward Party (GFP). "The MGP has already announced its support to us. We will get letter of support from GFP," he claimed.
He further claimed that the government would be formed in alliance with the MGP, the GFP and the independents. GFP president Prabhakar Timble, however, said they are yet to hand over any letter of support to the BJP or the Congress. "We have not given letter of support to anybody, either to the Congress or the BJP. We are not going to give the letter today," he said.
Timble said the BJP and the Congress are informally in talks with the GFP for support, but there has been no formal communication from them. "We need a formal written proposal from the parties along with common minimum programme before deciding our stand," he said.
The BJP won 13 seats in the state polls. Besides, it has the support of a party-backed independent MLA. Both the Congress, which won 17 seats, and the BJP are wooing the smaller parties to form government in the 40-member House, where the majority mark is 21.
The MGP, the GFP and independents have won three seats each while the NCP has bagged one seat in the state.
