Nokia 9 to be Released in Q3 2017, May Cost Rs. 44,999 in India

Iconic phone manufacturer Nokia just staged what can arguably be called the comeback of the decade a few weeks ago by launching three Android-powered smartphones and a reincarnation of the legendary Nokia 3310. Nokia is now set to launch its flagship smartphone, dubbed the Nokia 9 which is expected to be packed to the gills with features such as an Iris Scanner, Carl Zeiss cameras, and a QuadHD OLED display.
According to a new report by Nokia Power User, the smartphone is expected to be priced at around EUR 749 in European markets, $699 in the U.S. and Rs 44,999 in India. It must be noted that the Indian pricing is the lowest amongst the three.
The smartphone is expected to come with a Quad HD 5.5-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 GPU, a massive 6GB of RAM, a 3,800mAh battery with QuickCharge 4 support, 64/128GB of internal storage and Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.
On the imaging front, the smartphone is expected to come with a 22MP dual lens Carl Zeiss rear camera paired with a 12MP front-facing camera for selfies. Additionally, the smartphone is to feature an Iris Scanner like the one found on the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8, a fingerprint sensor, IP68 dust and water resistance and "Nokia OZO audio" enhancements.
Nokia is also rumoured to be working on two more high-end smartphones dubbed the Nokia 8 and Nokia 7 powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 660 chipset which are expected to slot in below the Nokia 9 in Nokia's smartphone line-up.

The Nokia 7 is tipped to come with a fullHD display, while the Nokia 8 is expected to feature a QuadHD display. Additionally, both smartphones are expected to sport a metallic unibody design and run on Android Nougat out of the box.
Due to Snapdragon 835 procurement issues, the Nokia 9 is not expected to be launched before the third quarter of 2017 - sometime between July and August. Nokia's 2017 reincarnation of the legendary 3310 is expected to be launched globally in April, with the Nokia 6, 5 and 3 receiving a staggered release throughout May.

Galaxy S8 Hands-On: Leaked Video Shows On-Screen Keys and Dedicated Bixby Button

A working model of Galaxy S8 has been leaked in an online video show-off the phone's bezel-less display and on-screen keys that replace the old home button and soft keys that are present on the current flagship Galaxy S7.
Though, if you have been following the leaks, you know this (and have seen this in leaked photos) already but it's the first actual hands-on video that shows the phone in full glory ahead of its launch next week on March 29.
The video uploaded by Slashleaks shows the phone's front and back, with a working display and software. It looks very similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge -- if you don't pay attention to the glowing button at the bottom. But the button integrated with the Bixby software -- apart from the bezel-less display -- would come as major differentiator not only compared to its own flagship but to others as well.
The video begins with showing phone's lock screen boasting the active display similar to the Galaxy S7, but with the home button glowing at the bottom. This is the dedicated button for launching Samsung's voice assistant Bixby. As the screen is unlocked you come to grips with the fact that there are going be three on-screen keys for navigation. The phone appears to be running a new version of its Touchwiz interface, but then it might just be a small upgrade built over Android Nougat 7.0.
This also clears the fact, if you are misinformed, that there is not going be an on-screen fingerprint sensor, but rather at the back -- put way up there, alongside the rear camera. As we stated  during the initial leaks about the design as well, Samsung could be focusing  more on other method of authentication - read iris scanner/face recognition -- for daily use, while keeping fingerprint scanner for the rare fail-safe override.

Galaxy S8 is said to be a drastic upgrade, and we would know if it actually is only after the launch, but in the leaked video it rather feels like an elongated version of the Galaxy S8, which may not be bad if most of the major flaws are addressed.
The elongated display, as you may know, has an 18:9 aspect ratio similar to what we saw on the LG G6. This divides the display into two equal perfect squares and the companies claim you get better multi-tasking experience.
Samsung is said to be launching Galaxy S8 in two variants 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch, with the difference only in the screen size and the prices, recently leaked on internet, are close to Rs 56,500 and Rs 63,500. The phones would hit retail only in after April 21.

Gionee A1 with 16MP Front Camera, Android 7.0 Nougat Launched in India: Specs & Price

Gionee on Tuesday launched A1, an Android smartphone with a big front camera, in India. The phone, which is a high-end device, will be available in both online and offline retail stores. However, the company has not yet announced the price of the phone but it is almost certain to be more than Rs 20,000. The pre-bookings for the phone will start from March 31.
The top feature of the Gionee A1 is its front camera, which can click 16-megapixel images. Unlike the front cameras in most other phones that come with the F2.2 lens, the selfie camera in the A1 has an aperture of F2.0, which should collect more light when you are clicking photos with it. In other words, your chances of getting a good selfie in a dimly-lit restaurant are higher with the Gionee A1 compared to some other phone.
On the back, the phone sports a 13-megapixel camera with F2.0 lens. This camera is paired with a dual-tone flash. The rest of the hardware inside the Gionee A1 is fairly typical of what we see in a high-end phone. It is powered by MediaTek P10 processor and has 4GB RAM. There is also 64GB internal storage and 4010 mAh battery with fast charging feature. The Gionee A1 had a 5.5-inch screen. It uses AMOLED panel and has a resolution of 1080P. Also, there is a layer of curved glass on top of the screen, giving the phone premium looks. The phone has an all-metal body, a fingerprint sensor in the front and other bells and whistles that are expected in a high-end phone.
The A1 is one of the first phones from Gionee to come with Android Nougat aka Android 7 out of the box. However, as it happens with Gionee phones, the A1 too uses Amigo user interface. This means the interface looks different compared to how Android Nougat looks in a Nexus of Pixel phone. At the same time there are a number of additional features in the phone that are unique to Amigo 4.0 operating system.
Overall this looks like one cool phone with some nice features aimed at users who love to click selfies, which means almost everyone. The front camera seems impressive. The other components seem good enough and make the phone competitive in its price range.
For Gionee the A1 is a very important launch, especially in India where we have seen other companies from China -- OPPO, Vivo, Lenovo, and Huawei -- surge in a big way in the last one year. Last year at the World Mobile Congress, Gionee had unveiled a new business brand strategy, hoping to focus more on the user experience and less on the specs and hardware. Also unveiled was a new logo with a smiley face, the same logo that adorns the rear cover of the Gionee A1. Its latest phone, according to the company, aims to satisfy the needs of users by providing good users experience instead of just specifications.

Beware! Pre-installed Malware Found On These 38 Android Devices

Recently, the security company Checkpoint has revealed that it has discovered the presence of severe malware and ransomware that was preinstalled on multiple devices from two large companies.

Beware! Pre-installed Malware Found On These 38 Android Devices

In the segment of mobile devices, Android is apparently the main target of hackers. Recently, Checkpoint revealed that it has discovered the presence of malware that was preinstalled on multiple devices from two large companies.

So, let’s find out which were the devices where malware was found.

Malware is today one of the biggest plagues in the technological world. Despite all the validation and verification mechanisms of product quality, the truth is that there are smartphones that hit the market with pre-installed malware. The discovery was made by the security company Check Point and reportedly malware is not part of the official ROM but has been installed along the device distribution chain.

Even more curious was the fact that there are 6 cases where the malware was installed directly in the ROM, with system privileges, which means that in those cases, the firmware must be reinstalled in the device.

From the malware discovered, highlight the popular Loki and Slocker. Slocker is a ransomware that uses AES encryption algorithm to encrypt all files on the device and then demand a ransom. Slocker uses Tor for communications with the C & C server (acronym for “Command & Control”).

But, which devices were infected?

According to the investigation, malware was found on the following devices:-

Galaxy Note 2
LG G4
Galaxy S7
Galaxy S4
Galaxy Note 4
Galaxy Note 5
Galaxy Note 8
Xiaomi Mi 4i
Galaxy A5
ZTE x500
Galaxy Note 3
Galaxy Note Edge
Galaxy Tab S2
Galaxy Tab 2
Oppo N3
Vivo X6 plus
Nexus 5
Nexus 5X
Asus Zenfone 2
LenovoS90
OppoR7 plus
Xiaomi Redmi
Lenovo A850
It is also known that these devices were at the service of two large companies: one in the area of telecommunications and another multinational in the area of technology.

This is not the first time that malware pre-installed on Android devices is discovered, which is very worrying. This means that distribution processes are vulnerable, which is unacceptable at this level.

Four charged, including Russian gov't agents, for massive Yahoo hack

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has charged four people, including two Russian state intelligence agents, for their involvement in a massive hack of Yahoo that affected half a billion accounts.
In September, Yahoo said hackers had managed to steal personal data on more than 500 million users during an attack in late 2014. The stolen data included names, email addresses, telephone numbers and hashed passwords. Blame for the attack was put on a "state-sponsored" group.
On Wednesday, the FBI said that group was the Russian Federal Security Service, the FSB, and it identified agents Dmitry Dokuchaev and Igor Sushchin as leaders of the attack.
The Russian agents paid two criminal hackers, Alexsey Belan and Karim Baratov, to break into the Yahoo accounts and then steal information that could be used to further compromise other accounts, according to the FBI.
The hackers specifically targeted the Yahoo accounts of Russian and U.S. government officials, including those involved with cybersecurity, Russian journalists and financial services companies, the FBI said.
But they also attacked the accounts of regular users, looking for things like credit card numbers and gift cards that they could cash in.
"The FSB used hackers to gain information, some of which had intelligence value, but in doing so the criminal hackers used this opportunity to line their own pockets for financial gain," said Mary McCord, acting assistant attorney general, during a Washington, D.C., news conference.
Three of those named are at large but one, Baratov, was arrested in Canada on Tuesday on a U.S. warrant. The other alleged criminal hacker, Belan, has been charged twice before in the U.S.
The U.S. has requested that Interpol issue red notices for those at large, but unless the Russian government decides to cooperate they could easily remain beyond the arm of international law.
However, the U.S. government has a number of tools at its disposal including diplomatic and trade sanctions that could be used to pressure or punish Russia.
The hack was just one of two massive data breaches suffered by Yahoo. A second, disclosed in December, was even bigger, affecting a billion accounts. It included much of the same information but also birth dates. The passwords stolen in this hack were obfuscated in MD5, an old algorithm that can be hacked. Yahoo blamed the larger breach on an "unauthorized third party."
Russian state security has been blamed for a series of hacks including the high profile attack on the Democratic National Committee during the recent U.S. election. McCord said Wednesday's indictment does not allege any links between the Yahoo hack and the DNC hacks.

2017 Hyundai Grand i10 - Full details leaked

Thank you to BHPian RavenAvi for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!
Ahead of the 2017 Grand i10 facelift's official launch, details about its feature additions and the new diesel engine's specifications have surfaced.
According to the leaked details, the 2017 Grand i10 facelift will get a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 74 BHP and 194 Nm of torque. This engine will be replacing the 1.1-litre unit found on the current model that develops 70 BHP and 160 Nm of torque. The new diesel engine has an ARAI-rated fuel economy of 24.4 km/l.
Meanwhile, the petrol variants will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder VTVT engine that makes 82 BHP and 114 Nm of torque. However, Hyundai has made some minor changes to this engine which include adoption of Alternator Management System (AMS), improvement of engine oil viscosity levels, use of low friction bearings in transmission, etc. These changes are claimed to improve the engine's fuel economy by around 4.6%. As a result, the new Grand i10 petrol will be able to deliver a company-claimed economy of 19.77 km/l, as compared to the corresponding figure of 18.9 km/l extracted by the current model.
With the facelift, Hyundai will also be adding some new features to the Grand i10 line-up. The Grand i10 facelift's top-end Astra trim will come with automatic climate control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & MirrorLink, voice recognition, a reversing camera and LED DRLs placed near the fog lamps. The top-end model will also get a new set of 14-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the Sportz trim will be offered with a 5-inch basic touchscreen infotainment system.
Cosmetic changes made to the exteriors of the new Grand i10 include a new hexagonal front grille and boomerang-shaped fog lamp housings with chrome detailing on the lower variants and LED DRLs on the top-end trim. The rear bumper has also been tweaked to house a large blacked-out area in the middle. Hyundai is also claiming to have reinforced the car's body for better NCAP safety compliance.

Election results: BJP getting ready to stake claim to form government in Goa

The BJP is likely to stake claim to form the government in Goa, hoping to sail across the majority mark with support from the smaller parties and independents. The Goa Forward Party (GFP), however, has said it is yet to hand over any letter of support to the BJP or the Congress.
"We are staking claim to form the government... we have support of more than 21 legislators which is required to form the government," BJP state unit chief Vinay Tendulkar claimed while talking to PTI. The newly elected BJP MLAs, who met today to explore the possibility of forming government in Goa, earlier passed a resolution urging party chief Amit Shah to nominate Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as leader of the legislature party.
The BJP's efforts to cobble up a majority to form the government in Goa got a boost as the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) said it would extend support to the saffron party if Parrikar is appointed as the chief minister. Tendulkar said the letters of support are expected from other parties, including the Goa Forward Party (GFP). "The MGP has already announced its support to us. We will get letter of support from GFP," he claimed.
He further claimed that the government would be formed in alliance with the MGP, the GFP and the independents. GFP president Prabhakar Timble, however, said they are yet to hand over any letter of support to the BJP or the Congress. "We have not given letter of support to anybody, either to the Congress or the BJP. We are not going to give the letter today," he said.
Timble said the BJP and the Congress are informally in talks with the GFP for support, but there has been no formal communication from them. "We need a formal written proposal from the parties along with common minimum programme before deciding our stand," he said.
The BJP won 13 seats in the state polls. Besides, it has the support of a party-backed independent MLA. Both the Congress, which won 17 seats, and the BJP are wooing the smaller parties to form government in the 40-member House, where the majority mark is 21.
The MGP, the GFP and independents have won three seats each while the NCP has bagged one seat in the state.

Apple’s latest patent hints at built-in fingerprint reader into iPhone display

Apple has been granted a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a new fingerprint reading technology. The patent titled “Interactive display panel with IR diodes” was originally filed in 2014 and first spotted by AppleInsider.
As per the patent, the technology could replace the physical home button that is present at the bottom of iPhone’s screen. The fingerprint reader will be embedded in the display instead of the home button. This would allow users to touch a device’s touchscreen to activate a virtual home button. The technology was invented by LuxVue that was acquired by Apple in 2014. This patent was subsequently assigned to Apple.
iPhone debuted in 2007 with the iconic home button which was simply used to get back to the home screen in iOS. However in 2013, Apple unveiled Touch ID fingerprint sensor that was used to unlock the device and authenticate mobile payments via Apple Pay. Just yesterday, it was reported that Apple iPhone 8 might come with an iris scanner. Apple is expected to bring major design changes to iPhones this year as it is will be company’s 10th anniversary.

Nokia 6, 5, 3 and revamped 3310 to be announced at MWC 2017

Users can also expect the relaunch of the iconic Nokia 3310, first released in the year 2000.
HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the rights to use Nokia’s brand name on smartphones, is planning to launch four new phones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this month. VentureBeat’s Evan Blass says the handset manufacturer will likely to launch two Android 7.0 Nougat devices – the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3, as well as the global version of the Nokia 6. Users can also expect the relaunch of the iconic Nokia 3310, first released in the year 2000.
While there’s been long rumours of a Nokia P1 flagship phone with a Snapdragon 835 processor, Blass only indicated the Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and Nokia 3310. All three phones will be showcased alongside the Nokia 6, which has so far been launched in China. The phone features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 4GB RAM and a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. The Nokia 6 is poised for the global launch in Europe, evidently.
Nokia 5, for example, will be a mark down in terms of specifications. It will likely to feature a 5.2 HD (720p) HD display, 2GB RAM, and a 12-megapixel rear-facing shooter. The report says the Nokia 5 is expected to be priced at € 199 ( or approx Rs 14,137). In comparison, Nokia 6 sells for € 249 (or approx Rs 17,689). Meanwhile, Nokia 3 will be the company’s entry-level offering and will reportedly cost € 149 (or approx Rs 10,585). Unfortunately, there’s no information about the phone’s specifications. All these devices will run Android 7.0 Nougat.
Perhaps the most interesting device that Nokia plans to launch is the renewed Nokia 3310. It will not be a smartphone, but “a modern version of a classic workhorse”, with a long battery life. It’ll cost only € 59 ( or approx Rs Rs 4192). Feature phones – handsets with basic functions continue to grow in many South East Asian countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Nokia is holding its press event on February 26, where the company will unveil all the technical details of its upcoming phones.

Google, Yahoo, Bing could remove links to torrent websites under new UK anti-piracy code

The move is a result of talks between representatives of the search engine firms and entertainment companies, chaired by the UK's Intellectual Property Office.

Search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo may remove links to torrent-indexing websites and other links that host copyright-infringing content, under the terms of a new voluntary anti-piracy code in the United Kingdom, TorrentFreak reported. The code between the search engines and entertainment companies is likely to take effect by June 1, according to the report published on Wednesday.
The move is a result of talks between the two sides, chaired by the UK's Intellectual Property Office. Baroness JP Buscombe of the Digital Economy Bill Committee said they had “agreed on the key content of the code”. “I expect an agreement to be reached very soon,” she added.
Representatives from the technology companies objected to a draft amendment to the Bill, which would have allowed the country's government to impose a code of practice on search engines with regard to the infringement of copyright-protected content. Buscombe praised the tech majors for their cooperation by “working bilaterally with creative industry representatives to explore the options for new interventions”. “I understand that all parties are keen to finalise and sign up to the voluntary agreement, and so we believe there is no need to take a legislative power at this time.”
If implemented, the move may allow other countries apart from the UK to ask tech companies running search algorithms formulate and agree to such codes, with entertainment industry representatives in their territories. Currently, search engines block links to copyright-protected after receiving “take down” requests under various national laws.

The much-hyped Nokia 6 has been up for sale a few times in China, but its units were sold out so quickly that many might have mistaken it for a flash sale. It has received lots of attention as it marks the comeback of the Finnish company after a short hiatus.

HMD Global revived the company after many had written it off. Its latest device, Nokia 6, is reportedly selling like hot cake.

"Actually we have been updating the inventory on JD.com more than 3 times but those were usually gone within minutes or hours, so that's why you have the impression that we were doing flash sales. We will keep supply to JD for sure and now the Chinese New Year holiday is mostly over and everybody's back for work, you can expect more supplies in the coming days and weeks," HMD wrote NokiaPowerUser when asked if the Nokia 6 has been sold via flash sale.

The Nokia 6 is priced at 1699 Yuan (around $246 / €233 / Rs 16,739) at JD Mall. It is currently available only in China and there is no word if it will be released in other countries, including India. However, the company is likely to release the device in several countries, especially emerging markets where it once did good business.

The Nokia 6 has a 5.5-inch full HD screen with a 1,080x1,920 resolution (403 ppi pixel density), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocking at 1.4GHz, an Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, a 4GB RAM, and a 64GB internal memory expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.

Daniel Radcliffe Would Think About Returning To Harry Potter

The past year has been a busy one for the Harry Potter franchise. After lying dormant for years, JK Rowling revived the series with a brand-new stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And, to top off the revival, the author penned a new film series that acts as a sort-of prequel to Harry Potter. With so much moving in motion, fans of the series naturally began to wonder if stars like Daniel Radcliffe would reprise their iconic roles one days. And, now, the British actor has commented on whether he'd return to the Wizarding World.
Recently, Radcliffe sat down with Good Morning Britain to talk about his upcoming projects and reflect on his Harry Potter days. It was there he was asked if he'd appear in another magical movie, and here's what he had to say:
“Oh, I don't know. I'm not sure, that's a long way off isn't it? I mean, Harry's gotten a bit older now. I really don't know, I think that's all highly theoretical talk. If it ever became more than theoretical, I would, of course, think about it.”
Of course, fans would be thrilled to see the star return as Harry Potter. The actor began work on the franchise when he was a child and grew up in front of worldwide audiences. Over the last year, rumors have run rampant that Warner Bros. is looking to create a new Harry Potter trilogy that would feature original cast members like Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. So far, Rowling has firmly dismissed any chance of that happening, but fans can dream of Radcliffe returning for a Cursed Child adaptation some day.
For now, it looks like they'll have to hold tight to those dreams and keep themselves tided over with the new Fantastic Beasts franchise. The first installment premiered last winter with four more pictures slated to debut over the next several years.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Trump Instructed Homeland Security For 'Careful Checkup' Of Those Entering US

US President Donald Trump said that he has asked the Department of Homeland Security to do a very "careful" checkup of those entering the country after a US court rejected a request by his administration to reinstate travel ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority nations.
The US President continued to be critical of the judge for passing an order that halted his executive order which banned people form seven countries frim entering the United States.
"I have instructed Homeland Security to check people coming into our country VERY CAREFULLY. The courts are making the job very difficult!" Trump tweeted.
"Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system.
People pouring in. Bad!" Trump said.
Earlier in the day, a US federal appeals court rejected a request by his administration to immediately reinstate Trump's travel ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries.
The Justice Department had made the request with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco as part of an appeal against a lower court order halting the travel ban on people from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen.
The court asked that challengers of the ban respond to the appeal, and for the Justice Department to file a counter-response.
The Justice Department said it would not elevate the dispute to the Supreme Court before that.

Sri Lanka to host shopping festival to lure tourists

Sri Lanka has been planning to host a mega shopping festival that would be strikingly similar to the famous ‘Dubai Shopping Festival’, with an aim to draw an increased number of tourists to this part of the world, as per an official statement.
The Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association (SLRA) had held a meeting with Ravi Karunanayake, who is the minister of finance, recently in order to discuss the proposed plan.
This fair would target the local as well as foreign shoppers.
Different choices and attractive discounts would be offered to visitors. Apart from that, the event would also witness various sports and cultural programs, musical events and also book exhibitions.
Hussain Sadique of SLRA, in a meeting that was conducted to discuss the proposed Shopping Festival said that Sri Lanka is currently witnessing an increase in tourist arrivals since there are limited activities in the nation to draw shoppers. Therefore, tourists who arrive here only visit the historical attractions.
He also said that the main objectives of the project is to draw more visitors from countries like Male, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other Asian and also European nations along with those from the Middle East.

Beware.. RBI has banned these currencies

Mumbai:The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cautioned the users of virtual currencies, including bitcoins, pointing out that it has not issued any licence or authorisation to any company to trade in these and that the users are doing it at their own risk.
"The Reserve Bank of India advises that it has not given any licence or authorisation to any company to operate such schemes or deal with bitcoin or any virtual currency," the Reserve Bank of India said in a statement on Wednesday.
"As such, any user, holder, investor or trader dealing with virtual currencies will be doing so at their own risk," the central bank warned.

The RBI had earlier cautioned the users, holders and traders of virtual currencies, including bitcoins, about the potential financial, operational, legal, customer protection and security-related risks that they are exposing themselves to.
"The Reserve Bank is presently examining the issues associated with the usage, holding and trading of virtual currencies under the extant legal and regulatory framework of the country, including foreign exchange and payment systems laws and regulations," it said.
There have been several reports of usage of these currencies for illicit and illegal activities in several jurisdictions, which could subject the users to unintentional breaches of anti-money laundering laws and laws combating the financing of terrorism, it added.
"The creation, trading or usage of virtual currencies, including bitcoins, as a medium for payment are not authorised by any central bank or monetary authority. No regulatory approvals, registration or authorisation is stated to have been obtained by the entities concerned for carrying on such activities. As such, they may pose several risks to their users," the RBI said.
Virtual currencies being in digital form are stored in electronic media that are called e-wallets. Therefore, they are prone to losses arising out of hacking, loss of password, compromise of access credentials and malware attack.
Since they are not created by or traded through any authorised central registry or agency, the loss of the e-wallet could result in permanent loss of the currency held in those.
Payments by these currencies take place on a peer-to-peer basis without an authorised central agency which regulates such payments. As such, there is no established framework for recourse to customer disputes.
There is also no backing of any asset for virtual currencies.
"As such, their value seems to be a matter of speculation. Huge volatility in their value has been noticed in the recent past. Thus, the users are exposed to potential losses on account of such volatility in value," the RBI said.
Bitcoins are being traded on exchange platforms set up in various jurisdictions whose legal status is unclear. Hence, its traders are exposed to legal as well as financial risks.
The central bank has said that it has been looking at the developments relating to certain electronic records of virtual currencies such as bitcoins, litecoins, bbqcoins and dogecoins, their usage and trading in the country.

Socking news class 12

While some are trying to fight the orthodox norms deeply engrained in society, these class 12 students are being taught that ugliness is a reason for dowry.

While a number of people across the country continue to make efforts to do away with the age-old dowry system and the messed up beauty standards in India, HSC students in Maharashtra are being taught that “ugliness is a reason for dowry.” No, we are not making this up.
In an extremely disturbing logic, .a Maharashtra HSC book in Sociology, has cited “ugliness” as one of the reasons for dowry. According to a report in DNA, in a chapter titled, Major Social Problems in India, the author claimed that dowry system is prevalent in India and went on to explain how dowry is deeply rooted in Indian society.
The problem starts when the students were taught through the book that the parents of the bride are forced to pay a dowry to the groom’s family when they cannot find a suitable boy for their “ugly” daughter.
“If a girl is ugly and handicapped, then it becomes a very difficult for her to get married. To marry such girls, bridegroom and his family demand more dowry. Parents of such girls become helpless and pay dowry as per the demands of the bridegroom as family. It leads to rise in the practice of dowry system,” the book read as.
Instead of teaching the children and educating them about the flawed logic of this system, our education system is teaching them to believe and actually study this distorted and regressive logic.
On one hand, we claim to strive to overcome what the society made us believe about beauty. While on the other, we are teaching the students of Class 12, to feed on to such preconceived notions. We are only passing these disturbed notions to the future of the country. Bravo!

I phone 7 in lucky for Apple ..... Now. How

San Francisco:Riding on the success of iPhone 7 and Apple Watch, the Cupertino-based company on Wednesday announced an all-time record revenue of $78.4 billion -- with a record quarterly earnings per diluted share of $3.36 -- for the first quarter of 2017 that ended on December 31.
The results compare to revenue of $75.9 billion and earnings per diluted share of $3.28 in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 64 per cent of the quarter's revenue, the company said in a statement. Apple shares rose three per cent in after-hours trading following the results.
"We sold more iPhones than ever before and set all-time revenue records for iPhone, Services, Mac and Apple Watch," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.

"Revenue from Services grew strongly over last year, led by record customer activity on the App Store, and we are very excited about the products in our pipeline," he said.
Apple faced falling revenue for three consecutive quarters as Chinese competition hit sales of its flagship iPhone series. But iPhone7 changed Apple's fortune in 2017 first quarter. The company sold 78.3 million iPhones, up from 74.8 million a year before.
"It reported revenue of $54.3 billion from iPhone sales, along with $7.2 billion from the Mac, $5.5 billion from the iPad and $4 billion from other products, including the Apple Watch," BBC reported.

"Our outstanding business performance resulted in a new all-time record for earnings per share, and over $27 billion in operating cash flow," said Luca Maestri, Apple's CFO.
"We returned nearly $15 billion to investors through share repurchases and dividends during the quarter, bringing cumulative payments through our capital return program to over $200 billion," Maestri added.
Revenues from its services division -- including the App Store, Apple Music and iCloud -- were $7.1 billion......!
